Time is moving forward swiftly, yet it feels as if it’s standing still. With only 10 weeks remaining, the workload has taken its toll on me, and even my diet has suffered. It seems like time is passing by as rapidly as it did in the movie Interstellar during the scenes on the planet Gargantuan. For those who are familiar with me, I’m not your typical athlete. While I enjoy intense training, I also have a fondness for beer and food, making it a constant struggle to strike a balance.

Setting that aside, it’s incredibly frustrating to have only lost 1kg after three weeks of dieting. Unfortunately, that’s how it works, and I won’t delve into the intricate details of my diet here (feel free to ask in the comments if interested). It’s an extreme approach that I wouldn’t necessarily recommend, but we all have different bodies and what works for one person may not work for another. I’m confident that in a week or so (after an interruption due to a skiing holiday), I’ll start shedding the weight.

So, why do I need to go through this diet? It’s simple. I may not be overweight, but I carry a few extra kilograms that pose a challenge in racing. My body has reached a point where I’m unsure how much longer I can continue with these short-course events. The intensity is brutal, and my joints, muscles, and mind are feeling the strain. Although I must admit, I’ve been saying this for the past six years while racing super sprint distances. Haha.

Nevertheless, it has been a week of dedicated training. I don’t focus on long sessions but rather on intense ones. For me, it’s all about quality over quantity—my philosophy and what works best. I’ll stand by my theory, even if it means looking foolish in the end. 😊 A increase in workload awaits me next week, and although I’ll have a rest soon, it’s not time just yet.

How do I stay motivated to step out into the chilly Melbourne winter? It’s tough, incredibly tough, but it’s what must be done. However, there is a silver lining—check out the pool! It’s all mine. During this session at the velodrome, I only saw one other person. While I do spot a few runners here and there (since it’s running season), I enjoy having the space to myself. Although I must admit, having others around does help with motivation.

Anyway, I’m moving forward, ready to face any challenges that come my way. Time is ticking, and hard work must prevail.
