Just to preface this post, why am I writing these updates? Well for myself, like a diary to look back on later, I’m not really expecting too many people to be interested in my self absorbed BS, but if you are, ennoy 🙂

So why haven’t i been doing updates for the last few weeks? Simple, I’m over it. totally over it. 🙂 I say that tongue in cheek, but it is true, the training is something I’m really struggling with. Im just bored with it all.

In short, I’m not the guy who loves training, I never have been, in fact, I can go as close to saying I hate it. Many times I dred what session I have on, I literally go from day to day and try not to even look at whats in store the next day, BUT I have persevered, battled through, and got it done. I have done all the sessions I have planned (with maybe one or 2 exceptions due to unforeseen issues). That what it’s all about, getting on with it, that’s the difference between motivation and discipline. I don’t lack motivation, although I find it very hard at times, the motivation for a race isn’t enough to push you through when you’ve had enough, I do have the immense discipline (god knows how, but I do), and it’s that discipline that gets me through. So why do I do this sport if I don’t love training? Simple, I really love racing, really love it! The fear, that challenge, and the pain! All the good stuff, because overcoming those obstacles leading up to and including race day is a really really good feeling of achievement!

Anyway, what have I been up to? Well still training 12 sessions a week, The length of the session has become longer, but it’s not long by long course training standards, but it is hard. Lots and lots of intervals, high-intensity stuff. While I definitely prefer to turn myself inside out for 45 minutes as opposed to a boring 3-hour bike ride, it is taxing on the body, but so far (touch wood) I have remained injury-free, so I have been doing this smartly for a change.

I can honestly say this is the first time in my many years of training for triathlon that I have followed a formal training program, to the letter, I’ve always just fluffed through and done what I felt like on the day; I’m actually looking forward to going back to that after this event,

Last week the Australian race kit arrived, was that a buzz! this is not a dream realised as I honestly never thought it would be something that would ever happen or I could ever achieve; wearing the green and gold; but it certainly is a real buzz to put on the country’s colours! and an absolute honour. I imagine I’ll be wearing some form of the merch for some time yet. lol, well why not, its earnt not bought! Afterall, at primary school I was the fat kid who came last in every sport I tried, and was always last picked in the team sports (yes, that was my motivation to push myself).

Oh well, enough of this for now, today’s session is a long run, which I actually do look forward too! its by far my main session, I actually do enjoy running, and especially to day as Im at Mt Buller, I love running up here and I’ve been known to sneak in a beer or two during y long runs. Ijust get out there and enjoy it.

Just to finish, some stats, my Vo2 max is currently 52.7, max HR 214 (I know….) resting HR 48 and my AT is 180. Weight has also come down to 68kgs (which was my target).

So until next time, only a few weeks to go, so looks like I have this thing done; well nearly at least!
